How to keep your car moving this Autumn

An Air Con Tempurture button

The transition from Summer to Autumn is one of the most difficult for you and your car to adjust to. Longer nights, colder temperatures and the gloom are all factors we’d rather ignore but, when it comes to your car, it needs some preparation to keep you going through whatever the months ahead throw at you. So, here are five simple checks you can do to help your car get through Autumn.

FSC’s Autumn Checklist:

1. Can you see and be seen?

The Autumnal gloom means your headlights need to be in top working condition. Take a few seconds to walk around your car, checking that all the bulbs work and light the surrounding area sufficiently. Get any bulbs that aren’t working changed as soon as possible.

2. Check that your windscreen wipers can keep up.

You use your wipers the most during Autumn, so you need to be able to rely on them to keep your windscreen clear. If your wipers leave streaks of water or don’t clear the windscreen effectively, look into replacing your wiper blades.

3. Will your brakes keep you safe?

You need to brake harder on wet roads because braking distances increase on slippery roads. This style of braking can lead to excessive wear and tear on your brake pads and decrease your level of braking fluid. If you’re losing confidence in your brakes, why not book a brake fluid replacement at FSC in Enfield today? You’ll get the peace of mind in your brakes that you deserve and stay safe this Autumn.

4. Are your tyres up to scratch?

Your tyres are an incredibly vital part of keeping you safe on the roads. Your tread has to be at least 1.6mm by law, but we recommend a tyre tread depth of 3mm over the Autumnal months to make sure you have the right amount of grip for the roads. As well as this, you need to have the correct tyre pressure at all times. As the temperature directly affects the pressure in your tyres, get in the habit of making sure you know the correct pressure for your tyres and that you keep them there. Under-inflated tyres are a killer – don’t get caught out.

5. Check that your heater is in top condition.

Your heater plays an important role in keeping your windscreen clear as well as keeping you warm and comfortable in the colder months. If your heater is blocked or broken, it won’t produce the warm air that you need. Make sure it works before it becomes too vital – otherwise you could be seriously caught out!
